Swing low sweet chariot!

Day 5 we entered the Anza-Borrega Desert and continued following the mountain’s curves before descending into Chariot Canyon where the scenery changed immediately. Goodbye chaparral, hello wildflowers!  Round yellow blossoms, little lilac lilies & vibrant lipstick-red Indian paintbrushes. At the bottom of the canyon we left the trail, following a dry creekbed northward to promised water. After a mile or so the creek began to gurgle with water but we couldn’t find the path that supposedly rejoined the PCT. Discouraged but hydrated, we camped in a windy bullet-ridden site, hoping our stay wouldn’t coincide with a stay from more trigger-happy red necks. Although, at this point, our necks were looking pretty red themselves.
