A few weekends ago we went to Burford Priory with D&P and E. It’s a lovely Benedictine monastery in the Cotswalds. They have the most beautiful manor house and grounds, including this meditative labyrinth (in contrast to the David Bowie film Labyrinth). The nuns and monks’ simplicity and devotion are so inspiring. It’s hard to believe that once places like England abounded with monasteries and nunneries that were bursting at the seams. Now Burford has less than 10 monks and nuns. And so, they are selling their beautiful priory in order to downsize. So if you have a spare £6.5 million, it could be yours! Although I can’t imagine many situations more ironic than ridiculously wealthy families arriving in private helicopters to tour the priory of those who have shunned private possession and whose clothing and other items are as plain and cheap as possible.
